Mirage or Bellagio?
Need some help deciding. My husband and I are planning a trip to Vegas to celebrate our anniversary. We can get a Tower suite at the Mirage on the 26-28 floor, with a separate living room, whirlpool tub, 1100 sq ft., for approximately the same price as a normal room (not Lakeview) at the Bellagio. I've also read construction is on going at Bellagio, they're building a new 925 room tower. Which one would you choose? Thanks in advance!

We just got through staying 4 nights at the Bellagio.....thoroughly enjoyed it....treated VERY special even though we stayed in the very nice "regular" room not facing the fountains. The construction was NOT an interference AT ALL for us. The view of the mountain view was lovely and night view was pretty also. Didn't hear or see a thing. It was fantastic. However, if you can receive more amenities for the same price and just as nice....go for it! However, I would not trade our time at Bellagio for anywhere else.

I had a bad experience with The Mirage and they didn't want to "right their wrong"--no comps for an unpleasant stay. Talked with three maintenance workers who said this property was once owned by a great guy-Steve Wynn (who now has Le Reve-new in Vegas)and he was a people pleasin' person. Whoever owns the Mirage now is not into pleasing the customers first..his dollar comes first so i am hands down for The Mirage.

Claire: Steve Wynn is planning to build Le Reve (tentative name, may change) for 2005 opening.
He sold Mirage and Bellagio to Kirk Kerkorian who owns MGM. MGM runs a middle of the road casino business whereas Wynn was instrumental in trying to build some hotels with class in LV to try to upgrade its image.
Wynn is more responsible than any other single person in the past 25 years for changing Vegas casino owners' attitudes about how to lure people to LV. He was instrumental in the downfall of the $1.99 buffets and cheap hotels, and helped prove that luxury resorts could survive in LV.
Mr. Wynn is reported to be nearly blind, BTW, from macular degeneration, though he's still only in his 61.

The workers say he is awesome ; they say he cared about them as people and their families; that he knew each one by name and truly cared about pleasing people, that they the customer came first......my brother stayed at the Mirage way back when Steve owned it and said they bent over backwards for the customer.........not anymore.
Another brother of mine who is a gold pro has met him playing golf and said he was really nice. I love hearing stories about the man and it makes me sad to hear he is almost blind.

Have you considered the Venetian? Just got home today from a stay at their brand new Venezia suites, and highly recommend them if they're not over your budget--about $200. The rooms are over the top -- luxury in the way you'd only find in Vegas! There's even a flat screen in the bathroom! (Which, by the way, was nicest hotel bathroom I've ever seen!) I'm very glad we chose this hotel over the Bellagio, which was beautiful, but incredibly crowded.

Thanks for the responses. Just curious, Frankie, where did you find a rate of $200.00 for a Venezia suite at the Venetian? I haven't found anything close to that rate, however we are going over a weekend and I believe we'll be there during the NFR.

If you're going during the second week in December, you're there during the NFR. That's our anniversary week, too. Most of the rodeo fans book their rooms well in advance (often while they are still there the year before), which would explain why you're finding only higher priced rooms or none at all. The NFR draws a HUGE crowd of very loyal fans!

Hi, Scubagal,
The rate for the Venezia Towers was $209 at their website (venetian.com) when I booked it about 6 weeks ago, before they opened...$249 for concierge level. That was for a Sun-Mon night. I haven't checked their rates again, they may have already gone up...?
