My choice would be Los Angeles, Las Vegas, Zion National Park (a wonderful place), Bryce Canyon, and then Monument Valley via Highways 12, 24, 95, and 169 (which is the long way, but incredibly beautiful).

happytrails' route sounds very good.
Another option, coming from the south and making a loop and hitting a couple of additional good spots, would be Grand Canyon south rim (first night), then to Monument Valley the next day for 1 or 2 nights, then (optionally) north rim of Grand Canyon for a night if traveling when it is open (late May - Oct), then Bryce for a night or two, then Zion for a night, then back to Vegas and LA.
If you have one more night then Page would be good too, or maybe stay at Page instead of north rim of GC.
