Need help w/ Hotels in Monterey/Carmel!
Please help with ideas of where to stay for under $175 in Carmel or Monterey. We want someplace that has some charm and a continental breakfast. This trip we would prefer not to stay at the Hilton or Marriott type of chain hotels. Please hurry, I'm running out of time to make my reservations for the end of July. Thanks!

Deblynn--Can you go a bit more than $175 (but still under 200, at least with AAA). If so, the Hotel Pacific is nice. (www.hotelpacific.com) It is located in downtown Monterey, and is within walking distance of the waterfront. All of the rooms are junior suites, with comfortable feather beds, fireplaces, large bathrooms and small patios. The place definitely has charm and does offer continental breakfast and afternoon tea and fruit. We stayed there a couple of years ago and plan to spend a couple of nights there in August. When I have seen negative reviews of this place, it generally has to do with noise, so I suggest you ask for a courtyard rather than street-side room. Good luck!

Go to www.pacificgrove.org for list of hotels in this area. Beautiful town with most of the coastal area on the peninsula. LIGHTHOUSE LODGE very nice and near the ocean. Pacific Grove has a lot of these type places and all close drive to Carmel/Monterey.

In Carmel I like the Coachmen's Inn or the Candle Light Inn. They are both nice but the Candle Light has a pool. They both include breakfast and the Candle Light delivers it to your room in a basket which is nice. The Coachman's rooms are really nice w/ fireplaces and a wet bar.
