Need restaurant recommendations for our trip to Philadelphia???
We'll be staying in Wayne for four nights touring museums and gardens nearby and won't have a car. Can anyone suggest some great restaurants? Would be going into Philadelphia be possible/feasible?

I don't know how many people you include in "we," but for $28 you can buy a Family Independence Pass
http://www.septa.org/fares/pass/independence.html
which will allow two adults and two children to ride any Septa train, trolley, subway, or bus -- including the Phlash-- for one day. This includes the regional rail station in Wayne
http://www.septa.org/stations/rail/wayne.html
from which you can get to 11th and Market (Market East Station) in a matter of minutes.
You can ride into Center City in the morning, take the Blue Line to Old City, walk around, ride the Phlash to the Art Museum and back, have a great meal at any of two dozen restaurants, ride the Orange Line to the Avenue of the Arts (for a show) or the Sports Complex (for a game), and then return to Wayne after midnight -- all for $28 for four people. A bargain hard to beat!

There are definitely good places to eat in Wayne, the problem is things considered in "Wayne" are pretty spread out, so not sure what to recommend. I'm not sure how you can manage in such a suburban area without a car, I'm afraid.

It's been many years since I've dined on the Main Line so I have to base my recommendations on the reputations of chefs that I know from their Philadelphia restaurants.
Susanna Foo's in Radnor and georges in Wayne are two restaurants run by chefs very well known in Philadelphia. Taquet in the Wayne Hotel had a great reputation but that has closed. Sorry. I'm sure the Main Line regulars here can give more suggestions.
Going into the city is very doable. You'll be able to walk to the Wayne station on the Paoli/Thorndale line (R5).

The train runs late and is not a long trip. The only thing I would worry about is going down into the concourse in Philadelphia late at night. Should they worry, Paul?

Margaret Kuo's is right down the street. Excellent Chinese and Japanese food in a nice setting.

First of all, sorry it's taken a while. I've been hiking without Internet access for three days.
Secondly, all I can say is that I've walked in that area at 1 am and never felt afraid. If by the "concourse," you mean 30th Street Station, that's a VERY well protected part of town. And I say that as someone who's afraid to drive through some parts of Philly in broad daylight.
There ARE parts of Philly that, plain and simple, you should avoid at all hours. But when I see local residents walking alone to their apartments in Center City at all hours, I conclude it is a RELATIVELY safe area. But there is no place in any large American city that is 100% safe at any hour, particularly if you don't keep your guard up.

30th St station area doesn't bother me at all. DS went to Drexel and I lived in University City (well, that was YEARS ago) so I know it well. No, I was asking about the concourse areas to get down to Suburban and Market east stations.
I'm jealous that you were out in the woods for three days. I'm trying to plan some hiking myself this summer.
