North Lake Tahoe Hotel

I just returned from a weekend in the north part of Lake Tahoe. We stayed at The Tamarack Lodge, and I would NOT recommend this motel. The rooms are small and smell like smoke and mildew, they are decorated in 1950s style, complete with a mirror etching of Clark Gable, and the furniture is old.

I do however, recommend checking out the west shore for swimming. There are also some cool restaurants and taverns here.

Thanks. I was thinking of staying there when I went in September. Did you see any nicer, reasonably rustic cabins or motels in the area that looked good to you? I'm having a hard time figuring out where to stay, never having been there before.

By the end of the summer these places have be through the ringer! No vacancies all summer long, families with poopin' babies and kids spilling food everywhere, smokers and drinkers. One after the other these mobs come through Tahoe and tear-it-up, its no wonder it takes the owners weeks and weeks to clean things up and fix things up. September? Beautiful weather but don't expect great customer service, the motel owners are all worn out by then.

www.charmeychalet.com This place isn't bad if you don't expect the Ritz and are used to staying in "cabins" as opposed to luxury-carpeted hotel suites. It's in the woods though, not right on the water.

Never stayed at the Tamarack, so I can't comment on that, but the 1950's decor is standard Tahoe, part of the charm of staying there, in my opinion.

The Hyatt In Incline Village has just been renovated and is close to the water. Not a bad option at all.
