Old Orchard Beach

Anyone visited Old Orchard Beach in Maine lately? I am considering the area since I will have teenagers with me and am thinking there is enough in the area to keep them busy. They will not have their own car. Any suggestions on hotels, etc. Thanks

Pine Point, on the same beach as O.O., is much nicer and more quiet; it's a longish walk via the beach or road from Pine Point to the action-packed pier area at O.O. and back, which should tire your teens out - a plus in my mind {I have one too}!

There was quite a lengthy discussion about Old Orchard Beach a month or so ago; do a search because it will give you lots of good info. See also the one entitled Hampton Beach, NH.

I live next door to Maine - in little 'ol New Hampshire - and I have to agree with Molly2 about Pine Point. It is much nicer than Old Orchard Beach, which is really run down now, although efforts are underway to return it to its glory days. There is now a train that runs from Old Orchard Beach into Boston, if the teens may be interested in that for a day. I would suggest, however, that you make reservations in advance for the train to and from Boston. Have a nice stay in Maine.

Some people have very strong opinions of the Old Orchard Beach area. I have family in the area, so I can't completely avoid it. However, two summers ago when I took my three children walking down the boardwalk, looking at the many tattoos and very few teeth, I swore I would never return.
