Parking at The Cloisters

Can someone please give me information about parking facilities at The Cloisters? The website only states that there is free city parking in Fort Tryon Park. Are there ample spaces and is it within a reasonable walking distance to the museum? Thanks!

I was just at the Cloisters a week ago on a beautiful day. Although I took the subway, we, of course came out and went through Ft. Tryon Park. I saw a big parking lot practically empty. The walk from the parking lot to the Cloisters was about 10 minutes -- and a beautiful walk through gardens with great views at that.

I thought there was also another lot nearer the Cloisters that also looked pretty empty, but perhaps that is for busses or private parking only?

HI - I was there on Saturday and we drove in. Driving directions from the Met website were easy to follow and lead right to the Cloisters. There is plenty of parking right at the Cloisters. We arrived around 10:30 and there were plenty of spaces right at the entrance ... if it is crowded it looked like you might get a space a few minutes walk from the entrance. When I called Cloisters before going they did say it can get crowded on a nice afternoon but that they do not run out of parking spaces.

Drive up the Henry Hudson Parkway, if coming from NYC or over the GW Bridge. The entrance is well signed and plenty of parking.
