Pen-Top Bar-Peninsula Hotel

We would like to have after a theater cocktail-approximately 11:00pm. Would like to go to the Pen-top bar in the Peninsula Hotel. Need advice on what's it like, dress, clientel, do they take reservations and whether we can get a window seat. I understand the View is closed due to rennovations and we would like to take my wifes parents for the view after the theater. Thanks

It's expensive. Dress from the theater should be fine. I doubt they take reservations just for drinks but you can phone & ask, thereby making sure it's not closed for a private party. Clientele=tourists, people staying in hotel, business people, special occasion celebrants. Recent discussion here (I couldn't find for you) suggested the possibility of some expensive ladies of the evening, but I think that may be true of any hotel bar .

You might also try the Rainbow Grill. I don't think the views will be as good though. Enjoy! http://cipriani.com/cipriani/RainbowGrill/grill.htm

Pentop, on 5th Ave @ 55th Street, is extremely expensive with a mix of tourists, posers & locals.

Call them for more info: 212-903-3097

In my opinion, The Broadway Bar at the MM has much better views than the View. I also like the view from Foley's Fish House.

Ditto with the Rainbow Room.

All will be expensive and a little dressy.

It's on outdoor area, so window seats really are less of an issue than they would be at say the Rainbow Room. They generally don't reserve tables, except for perhaps hotel guests.

Meant to add, you should know it is expensive. $15 per drink at a minimum - and that's for a Gin and Tonic!
