Please suggest country inns or B&Bs in Cape Cod and the Berkshires in Massachusettes

I would like to visit Cape Cod or the Berkshires during the end of July for 2-3 nights. I know that these are very different regions of Massachusettes, but I have been wanting to visit both. We will choose one for July and the other for next Spring.

I would love to hear your opinions and suggestions. We are looking for romantic accommodations, gracious service, and a charming town to explore.

Thanks to all!

Lisa: whichever area you have chosen for this year may already be booked. Go to the Yankee magazine website (www.newengland.com) and check out its B&B Finder which is divided into sections of New England. There are lots of websites if you go to a search engine too. I would need to know a bit more before recommending my favorites in either place: your budget, how many in your party, etc.

A couple of years ago we stayed at the Cranberry Inn in Chatham on Cape Cod, and thought it was charming. Some rooms have fireplaces. They had delicious breakfasts, too. It's a short walk to the village for restaurants, shops, and galleries, and about a ten minute walk to the ocean beach. Check out www.cranberryinn.com for more details and pictures.

Hi Danielle -I would like to spend up to $275 per night. Less would be great too, but I don't want to sacrifice quality. This trip will most likely be for just my husband and myself. It is possible, however, that my 2 sons, 17 & 19 will join us. I doubt it, though. Thank you for the website tip. I would still love to hear your recommendations, now that you know a little more about what we are looking for. Thanks for your interest.

Sara, I would love to know if the Cramberry Inn has a distant ocean view from any of its rooms. It sounds charming.

The Red Lion Inn is located in Stockbridge, not Lenox. There are a zillion web resources for selecting accomodations. You'd best save the Cape for next year, as it will be nearly impossible to book for this July. Go to the bookstore and peruse all the tour guides. You'll do better than expecting the "best of the best" herein. And you can do very well for far less than $275/night.

Barb -I appreciate your advice. I have gone to the bookstore but, as you know, there is a vast number of B&Bs and inns on the Cape. Most of them sound very nice, from the descriptions in the books, as do most of the towns. I have also utilized the web but the photographs on the websites do not speak to the quality of service of the individual accommodation, nor to how pleasant the town is in which the accommodation is located.

That is why I posted this message. I was not looking for an easy way out. I truly enjoy researching all of my trips. I am simply trying to narrow down the vast selection with personal experience. Since I do not have personal experience of my own, regarding the Cape, I thought that others might kindly share their experiences. I have seldom been steered wrong by the advice I have received from this site.

If you can recommend nice accommodations for less than $275 per night, I would love to hear about them. I am aware that it might be difficult to book a room for this July, but we are willing to go mid week if we have to. And, there are always cancellations.
