Ed, When are you going to the Pointe Hilton? We have not stayed there, but have stayed at their 'sister" hotel--the Pointe Hilton at Tapatio Cliffs and have gone over to look at the Squaw Peak facility twice. Here are our observations:
All the rooms are suites, with a sitting room and a separate bedroom. We have stayed at Tapatio Cliffs three spring breaks in a row and found the suites to be quite adequate for our family of four. The rooms at Squaw Peak are identical in layout.
The Pointe Hilton at Squaw Peak is pretty popular with families with children during the spring break period because they have a very child-oriented pool area with a lazy river ride, water slide, etc. So, if LOTS of kids bother you and you're going at spring break, it might not be the most relaxing place.
The grounds and layout are nicely landscaped and they have a variety of restaraunts to choose from, which is nice. I think there are also some hiking/walking trails up Squaw Peak that are accessible from the hotel grounds.
Hope this helps. Oh, also, the location is good as far as being able to travel easily to other areas of Phoenix (pretty close to Scottsdale, which has lots of good restaurants and shopping). Let me know if you have any other questions!

Ed - The Hotel is slightly off the beaten path on the edge of the desert. This gives the resort a kind of "Cowboy flavor" and there are activities that take advantage of this feature.. When we were there, we took the kids on a horse pulled hayride into the mountains, and had a "catered" western lunch with hotel staff dressed for the part.
The real strong point of of Squaw Peak is the pool and water park... The main pool is large and features a waterfall, and multiple waterslides. Around the main Pool is a lazy water raft ride that you and the kids can spend hours floating on... there's also mini-golf and tons of optional activities.
For accomodations, try a Casita, a two floor, one and a half bath townhouse that sit on the outer ring of the pool. In addition there are mini-pools for each three or four casitas that offer a degree of privacy and a cool dip away from the main swimming area...
We were there in July and the outside temps were 110, but there were plenty of umbrellas, gallons of sunscreen, and early AM and late day swims became the best part of the trip... Hope this helps...
