I'm curious as to how many people actually read replies in a thread before posting their own? I've read any number of threads where the exact same solution is offered any number of times in the same thread as if the posters never saw the identical replies. Do many post answers without ever reading what has been said, and said again?

I know this post will generate snide comments, and it truly doesn't matter. For those who do answer, I'm genuinely interested in what you have to say. If you don't read, just post your own reply, is it because of a time constraint or is it lack of interest in what others are saying? Do you read other threads, or skim as much as you can to see if your reply has been covered? Just curious. Maybe plenty of people do, see their response has already been posted and have the sense not to say it again. Perhaps it's just a handful that post without ever glancing at any other replies.

I enjoy reading entire threads where possible. NO I won't read all of a 100 post thread if I've never read it before, but those of reasonable length, I'm interested in other's takes on situations, so generally I'll read, but then, I'm a listener. Are people who post without looking further the same people that are the talkers in any crowd, who rarely hear what anyone says? Curious if an analogy can be made, don't you think?

Today not only do we have threads where the same solution is offered several times, we have multiple threads on the same subject (Southwest). Are there a slew of people talking but no one listening to what anyone else has to say?? And for the people ready to jump in with something cutsey, remember, it's also YOU that no one is reading or hearing.

I thing most people generally try to read all the posts prior to responding, but you have to keep in mind that due to the nature of this message board, sometimes during the time you're typing, other people post replies just before yours, so by the time you hit "post my reply" someone else has said basically the same thing--making your response look repetitive.

I just read the above paragraph and realized it is just one very looong sentence! Hope there are no English professors critiquing _____________________________________________

Before doing a repetitious query, try typing in at the text search area a word or two, such as Chicago or beaches or Las Vegas or.........your choice. You'll then see what's been asked before and replies to the queries.

There are no "listeners" on this site. Just know-it-alls. They don't care what other people think because their answer is always right. Why read the wrong ones?

1.)If the thread is quite long, most people will not take the time to sift through all of it.
2.)As Judy stated, sometimes posters reply at approximately the same time.

A thread with many replies will usually make me just read maybe the last few to find out what's going on most recently.

And sometimes -- note this well, Ditto -- I post a reply and when it appears, 1, 2 or 3 others will have been posted pretty much at the same time as mine and with possibly some of the same points as mine. There is no way to know who else is writing and posting simultaneously with me/you on a "hot" thread.

Gee, Going Postal, you certainly exemplify what Ditto is trying to say. If you had bothered to read through the thread (which is not long at all), you would have seen that I made this same point yesterday. OK Ditto, you made your point.

I reiterated your point to spotlight it for Ditto -- sorry I didn't actually SAY "as Judy said," -- but maybe that's a point itself (that people don't always "credit" prior posts, they just kind of chime in to second the motion without saying the motion was already made).

This is also a fairly deceptive thread because Ditto appears to have cut-and-pasted several replies, and the official "count" only reads 3-4 replies.

What I'd like to know is why so many people post without first reading other posts. I can't tell you how many times I've read posts that either rehash issues that have already been raised or almost completely restate what others (sometimes the original poster) has already said. It makes me crazy.

What amuses me the most is not the people who are lazy to do their homework. It's the people who take their time to give lengthy answers to questions like: I'm going to Colorado, what is there to do?

Right, Judy and Postal. People post simultaneously, but those aren't the repeats I meant. It's the people who post responses hours, days, or the next week, after someone has made the identical remark. It is clear they haven't read a thing that has come before. It happens so frequently I wonder how many people read anything anyone else says, and if they don't, then why not? Is it as someone else mentioned that they just don't care, or are they short on time, or ___? And is it a lot of people posting this way, or the same ones over and over, thus giving the impression that it's a lot.

To Hasta La Vista, lost somewhere in paragraph 2, is that restatement clearer?

What I want to know is why I will be scrolling down looking at he post headers and I will see a title "Ritz in Hawaii" and the VERY NEXT title will be "Hawaii Ritz". What is up with that?

Sometimes, someone will post a question that has been answered recently and a respondent will "top" the old thread as a favor to the new poster, rather than just telling them to look it up. So you'll get today's Ritz question AND last week's Ritz question close together. Unfortunately, most of these do-gooders top the old thread and THEN write a reply to the new one, saying "I just topped last week's thread . . . " which of course puts the new question on top, so that's the one people answer. nobody ever said this was an efficient system!

I am guilty of having posted the same question twice. When I was planning a trip to California last year, I posted the question, then came back the next day to see the responses. I used the search function, which didn't show my question. My original questions had been pushed way way way (past the two hundred mark) to the bottom of the list.

Sometimes people do it out of shear ignorance (not knowing any betetr) but it also happens when the search function isn't working, or when posts mysteriously disappear!

If the search function doesn't find your post, you can use your browser's "find" function to search the headers of the top 50 posts, then hit "next 50" and search them in two keystrokes, etc., it just takes a few seconds to search the top 200 or 300 posts if you know a key word or phrase to search on.

If we're going to get picky about those little details, maybe you should go back to grade school to pick up some hints on punctuation and capitalization!

(In other words, don't be so quick to find the flaws in other people when you have posting issues of your own.)

Read 'em all if it is short, this is #17 Ditto, did you read 'em all? I didn'tread them all either, admittedly vain, I eventually read only the threads that respond to my comment to the original inquiry, after all, I need my sleep,too!
