Quick! Help me choose between San Diego and Colorado Springs
Just found out my husband needs to travel to one of these two places for a week in April, and I'm thinking the kids and I (ages 12 and 14) will tag along. He can choose either location, so I'm trying to decide which would offer the most to do for a my kids. We don't ski (not sure you could that time of year anyway), so any suggestions about what would be interesting in CO that time of year would be great. Which location would you choose and why?

I haven't been to Colorado Springs, but SD had lots to do:
Balboa Park, with the Zoo, gardens and lots of museums
USS Midway
Harbor boat tour
Old Town
Gaslamp Quarter
Maritime Museum
Sea World
Wild Animal Park

I absolutely adored Colorado Springs, but for kids in April I must recommend San Diego. More to do and no worries about a late storm. Abram has done a good job of noting all the stuff to do in the area.

I live in San Diego & have been in Denver/Colorado Springs in summer & winter, not in April though.
Unless you really like nature, Colorado would be the first choice; it may still be snowy sometime in early April in Denver.
Weatherwise, it is cool/nice in April in SD. There are also many things for kids to do beside the beach, parks, museums.

Colorado is still quite cool in April. Spring is just starting so the weather may be beautiful...or not.
You can drive to the top of Pikes Peak (if the road is open) wonderful view at the top of the world.
Cave of the Winds is a neat 1/2 day.
Take a drive though Garden of the Gods at the same time.
Not really a lot for this age this time of year. Winter has snow stuff summer has mountains and rafting.
I live in Colorado so California may just seem different, but I think San Diego in April would be the place to go.

April is a crappy month in Colorado - can be more wintery than spring-like, "mud season" we call it. I don't think Colorado Springs itself would offer enough to keep everyone interested for more than a few days. If you wanted to drive up to Denver (about 75 minutes) for day trips, there's a lot to do there, so it depends on how you planned to get around, if you have a car you can use and don't mind driving that much.
The Springs is a beautiful city, right at the foot of Pikes Peak, and the attractions like Garden of the Gods, the Air Force Academy and the Olympic Training Center are worth seeing, but a week might seem a lot if you can't get out of town! I personally like San Diego very much and think it might have more to do for a family for that length of time.

San Diego is usually pretty nice in April although bring a sweater or coat if you choose to come here. It can get chilly at night. April is an unpredictable month wherever you go.
If you're planning on a zoo visit, it's a great time to come. The animals are a friskier when it's a little cooler.
