Recommendations for Victoria and Vancouver Island trip?
My husband and I are planning a week on Vancouver Island in late September. I've been doing some research on nicer b&b's, inns and resorts. Am getting a little overwhelmed!!
We will stay in Victoria for about 3 or 4 days, then want to see the Pacific Rim area and maybe some islands.
Any recommendations on nice inns or resorts, or dining places??
Thanks for any help.

Hi Ginny, We have stayed at The Hunington Inn Manor while on Victoria Island. We found it to be a nice hotel. Search the web under Victoria Island and it might be listed. It has been several years since we were there. You might also enjoy having tea at The Empress. The Inn can make reservations for you. When we were there, coats and ties were required for the afternoon tea. Hope this helps. Victoria is a wonderful place to visit.

You will have a great time in Victoria and on Vancouver Island. We went in the summer of 2001. What an incredible place. I would agree with the recommendation on the Empress - a fabulous place and try to do one of the "teas". Here is my must do in Victoria - Butchart Gardens just outside town. UNBELIEVABLE!! You have to see this place whether you are into gardening or not. Well worth the price of admission, you could spend the better part of a day there. Also, drive up the west coast and see some of the tidal pools in provencial parks. This is a place I will definitely revisit. Write if you want more info. Have fun, Mark

This is a US-only forum. There is a Canada forum here just a mouse click away. Everyone benefits by sticking to the categories - you get the right group of experts together and the info is archived in a convenient place for future reference (and doesn't clutter up already full other areas).

We visited Victoria during a trip to the Olympic Peninsula, which I believe is still in the U.S. I got lots of information from this board.
Yes, be sure to visit Butchart Gardens. We took the people-only ferry to Victoria from Port Angeles, and then took a city bus from Victoria to Butchart Gardens. There were also several tour buses and shuttle vans--easy to find transportation. The gardens are fabulous; we spent hours there!]
Ginny, you inquired about dining. There was a restaurant where we first entered Butchart Gardens, but we went to the smaller one that was more in the center of the gardens. It was rather expensive, as I recall, but the view from our window was so enchanting that we didn't mind. I have also entirely forgotten what I ate, but I remember thinking it was delicious.

3 or 4 days is plenty for Victoria as the city is pretty quiet. The Empress for high tea and the Gardens are a must. There is a wonderful B&B just north of Victoria in Shanegin Lake whose name escapes me but it starts with an M and is like Merrivale House or something like that. You have to see Tofino and Long Beach. The Best Western resort in Tofino is quite nice. Take a trip to Meare`s Island for half a day to walk the trail through this temperate rain forest. The huge Douglas Firs will amaze you. ON your way to Tofino (not far from Port Alberni) there is a forest preserve belonging to MacMillan Blodel that is worth stopping to take a look. Have a fabulous time in one of Canada`s most beautiful spots.
