Red Roof Inn. Chicago. Anyone has stayed there lately?
Planning to visit Chicago in 3 months and in a budget. We want to know if anyone has stayed lately in this hotel, for comments.
We understand that the rooms are small and simple but want to know if they are clean, quiet atmosphere, etc.
Thanks for any response!

Is this the one downtown? If so, the hotel has been recently renovated and is pretty decent. I haven't actually stayed there but I booked a block of rooms there for a reception and from what I saw - they looked just fine.
Have fun!!

Don't know about Red Roof. In general motels are kind of expensive in Chicagoland, especially downtown, but you might do some searching on www.lodging.com. We found a big bargain at The Drake several weeks ago, also stayed at Comfort Inn N in Joliet and Days Inn North Chicago. Lots of motels in the Ohare airport area. Likely the further out the better the price...where you stay may depend on what you are doing in Chicago.

If you don't mind a half hour commute into the city to sightsee, you might consider the Midway Hotel Center. Rooms are usually pretty reasonable and there is a 24hr. shuttle to the orange line (el train) station nearby. check out

I went this route (staying outside the city and taking the train in) when I went to D.C. and really didn't find it to be a problem, especially considering all the money I saved on a room.

You can usually find hotel reviews for most properties at www.tripadvisor.com. I'd recommend checking there for that particular hotel.
That said, if it's in your budget to stay there, I think most (not all) people would be much happier staying downtown and not commuting 30-45 minutes each way every day if their activities are going to be downtown. Especially if you want to take advantage of Chicago's abundant nightlife.
Another option, if you won't have more than 2 people per room, is priceline. You can read more at www.betterbidding.com and www.biddingfortravel.com, but deals on Chicago hotels can be astounding. I've gotten 4* hotels on numerous occasions for under $75/night on priceline.
