San Diego, 5/26-6/7, Are the beaches too cold for swimming?
Traveling to Disneyland and San Diego in just a few days. My husband and I are in our mid 30s, and we have a 4-year-old daughter and a 2-year-old son. Just checked weather.com, and the high's are in the upper 60's only! We live in Austin, TX, and we're used to swimming in warm water only.
I guess the beaches are too cold for swimming?

Neither the Atlantic nor the Pacific (except very far south) are ever anything but chilly. If you're used to it (we go to the beach to cool off and want the water chilly) it's fine, If you're used to warm water (I found the water near Miami awful - felt like a lobster being steamed) you need to stick with heated pools.

AT its hottest late summer the water may get in the low 70's, so yes, coming from anywhere in Texas you will think it too cold to swim. Your kids will have fun playing in the sand though! The good news is it will not be too hot at Disney and because you are going before California schools are out, the crowds will be managable. Be sure to bring sweatshirts or light jackets for everyone. Have fun!

I think so, but I see kids in the water all the time. You're coming at our yo-yo weather season. One day it's May gray and the next could be a peek at summer. Bring suits regardless what weather is being predicted.

The water is cold, but you can rent wet suits and still enjoy a lot of water sports like kayaking.

With such young kids though I would spend the day at the La Jolla Cove. It is a small protected cove (with lifeguards) and there are rocks and caves for exploring and seeing sea life from hermit crabs to seals. It sets next to a beautiful family type park, and just down from the wonderful town of La Jolla where you can walk around. A fun restaurant for kids might be Burger Lounge which has organic hamburgers and fries.

Out here it isn't really the beach temps you need to worry about (though it can be chilly) - it is the water temperature. In Junes it will normally be in the low to mid 60's F.
Swim at the hotel, walk on the beach . . .
