san diego - good mexican restaurant
We are headed to san diego in a couple of weeks. A friend told me she ate at a great mexican restaurant that over looked cliffs and the ocean. She cannot remember the name. Sound familar to anyone? Any other suggestions for great places to eat would be appreciated as well. thanks, teri

Hi, we had a really nice Mexican meal at Miguel's Cocina, it is located in Coronado Island, across the street from the Hotel Del Coronado where we stayed. They have a really nice outdoor patio there and excellent food, we loved the Mexican creme brulee with Warm Churros for dessert.
Both of the restaurants at the Del are good, the Sheerwater is the more casual venue and 1500 Ocean is very nice for a more elegant meal in the area. Have fun on your travels! ***kim***

In Old Town Park there is a Mexican restaurant in a courtyard--a great and extremely popular setting. I can't remember the name of this restaurant either, but I always look forward to eating there when I'm in San Diego (mostly because of the festive setting).

I believe I found more specific information. The restaurant is Casa de Reyes located in the courtyard of Plaza del Pasado.
On my last visit to the plaza, a shop keeper there told me it is a historic building which at one time in its history functioned as a motel!

Every year we make a pilgramage to Marietta's. It's across the street from Drew Ford near the Grossmont shopping center. We're among the few Anglos there, which will tell you something. It's definitely not fancy, but the food and margaritas are far and away the best we've had anywhere.

If you want to go where locals go and skip the touristy places, try the great food at El Indio. It is located right off I-5 between the airport and Old Town. El Indio is truly an institution in San Diego. Super casual and super good.

If you want to try something a little different, go to El Agave in Old Town. They specialize in mole and have several to choose from on their menu. The other dishes on the menu are a bit overpriced IMO, but the moles there are fantastic.
