San Diego late August: Doable or miserable?
I saw ridiculously low airfare to San Diego today and am thinking of a Aug. 29th to Sep-3 stay. I've been there before twice in June and loved it. My question is: Would late August crowds make the experience miserable? Would we be driving around parking lots for 45 minutes trying to find a spot at la Jolla or Del Mar or Coronado beaches and then find elbow to elbow conditions? Would I be able to enjoy Sea World and the Zoo and LegoLand or would walking paths be a crush of humanity? We would do these attractions mid week if that helps any. Is this doable or better off waiting for other times? Looking for advise from people experienced with SD area in late August, early Sept.

That is over Labor Day, and I wouldn't advise it. If it was just "late August" that would be one thing, but over Labor Day would be a nightmare.
I'd save San Diego for another time when you might be able to enjoy it better.

It's not actually over Labor Day. Labor Day is September 5.
Many of the schools in the county will be back by then, but I think the city schools go back after Labor Day.
Saturday, Sept. 3 will be crowded, but that's the day you leave so maybe you won't be doing much here. During the week will be busy, but perhaps slightly less crowded than earlier in the month. It will be much more crowded than in June, though.

If you have the option of coming in September after Labor Day, then that would be a lot less crowded. The downside is that the Zoo and Seaworld don't have extended hours after Labor Day and there are fewer lifeguards at the beaches. If post Labor Day isn't an option, then you should be OK the last week of August.
