San Diego ?'s

We're going to San Diego for 5 days, the kids are 14 and 11. We're planning on SeaWorld and the Zoo for sure based on all the comments I've read here. I have a couple of questions:

1. Where can we get discount tickets for Seaworld and/or the Zoo? We are not AAA members.

2. Will the zoo take a full day?

3. We'll probably go to LaJolla, is the kayak excursion worth it? Is it ok for out of shape parents?!

4. The National Sports Card show is in Anaheim while we're in SD. What's the best time to make that drive and how long will it take?

5. We'll be staying downtown, so any other suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks!

2. I would plan on 4-6 hours for the zoo.

4. Downtown SD to Anaheim (no traffic) will take you a little less than 2 hours. Best time? On the weekend anytime is probably okay. During the week DO NOT hit southern Orange County between 7 - 9 am and do not try to leave Anaheim between 4 - 6 pm unless you are prepared for heavy traffic.

5. Enjoy the beaches (La Jolla, Del Mar, Torrey Pines). Visit La Jolla village, Go to Belmont Park (Boardwalk type amusement park) at Ocean Beach, Visit the Star of India, Go hiking at Torrey Pines (several hikes with most about a mile), catch a game at Petco Park, enjoy the Gaslamp quarter for dinner

1.) Your family can get discount tickets for the Zoo with the Go San Diego Card. The card includes Wild Animal Park and some other San Diego attractions, too. So check it out and see if it's worth it.

2.) The zoo will take around 4 hours depending on how you like to do it. With the Best Value ticket I would allot a full morning. Be sure to get there early.

3.) I don't think a kayak excursion would be too strenous near La Jolla Shores--the water is calmer than other areas and it's actually quite peaceful. However, if you're not particularly sporty you might not like all the activity. There are paddleboats available for rental at the Catamaran Resort Hotel in Mission Beach which are a little less strenous!

Zoo- get there right before you open gate. It will only take the whole day if you really, really like zoos. Don't miss snakes, koalas, or pandas. The double decker tour is very handy- it's just about impossible to walk the entire zoo.

Seaworld- Atlantis ride, manatees, and the shows are the best. See shows first, and work everything else around them.

Allot time for Balboa Park- it's HUGE.

Don't miss Maritime Museum (Star of India)-Very neat!

Hotel Del Coronado- beautiful, historic. Great hand made ice cream parlor down by pool!

Have fun!
