San Francisco / Sonoma Trip
My husband and I are celebrating our first anniversary from November 17-25th. We are spending 3 nights in SF at the Chancellor Hotel and 3 nights in Sonoma at the Inn at Sonoma. We still have 3 more nights at the end of our trip that we are not sure where we should go or what to do - It is over Thanksgiving. We are in our late 20's and enjoy a variety of things from nice dinners and theaters to nature hikes and drives. Any suggestions would be wonderful. We are leaving Fri the 25th out of SFO. TIA!

Yosemite National Park is a 4-5hr drive from SF maybe closer from Somoma, and just beautiful. If you like nature, it comes no better. I would stay in the Valley at Yosemite Lodge(resonable rates) and have dinner at the Ahwahnee Lodge (room rates are high but to eat in their dining room is magnificant). I would, for sure, go to the Mariposa Grove and walk amoung the giant Sequoias. Weather permitting, this is doable in 3 days.

I second the Monterey Coast suggestion! Spend one night in Capitola at the Inn at Depot Hill (www.innatdepothill.com). Capitola reminds me of the island of Capri in Italy...just beautiful! You will love the Inn at DH, they treat you like royalty! Then head down to Monterey for two nights. Stay at the Monterey Plaza Hotel if you can. It's on the water and is gorgeous. There are more reasonable hotels near Cannery Row as well. You will not be dissappointed. My husband and I got married there and it's just a magical place! Have a wonderful trip.

I also agree with going to Monterey and Carmel. San Jose would also be a good option if you want more of a big city atmosphere (theater, museums, etc.). just outside of San Jose Big Basin has some very impressive coastal redwoods and tere are a variety of hiking trail there as well.

OK...here is another scenario. You have been recommended to do the Monterey trip for your three days.
That might work, but think about your travel time. If you can get to Montereay and back to your plane in the time you have, this is a good option. I live in Santa Cruz, across the Bay from Monterey. From Sonoma to Monterey may be, depending upon traffic, about 3 or 4 hours.
If you can spend a day in Monterey do not miss the world class Monterey Bay Aquarium. Spend a few dollars to take the 17 Mile Drive.
