Stroll along, there are many, can't think of names, but you'll see them as you keep moving. Now if you go up into the new complex of the Ghirardelli Square, it gets posh and pricey and elegant, I went to the Mandarin, quite spiffy, and the Ana Mandara, a vietnamese place - they all have good seafood because of their location.
But following your nose and appetite is the biggest fun, they are all in fierce competition, standards are quite high.

We ate at a crab house (I forget the name)right on the wharf and I was less than impressed. In hindsight I should have ordered from one of the take out vendors a block away. I will recommend, however, an excellent restaurant we found a few blocks away from the wharf. We had an excellent meal at Caesars Italian Restaurant. The small amount paid to upgrade to a five course meal was well worth the occasion. The old time Italian service and the tasty food made for a truly memorable experience

On my visits to S.F. over the years, I have enjoyed many wonderful meals at Scoma's.
I have not been to McCormick & Kuleto's, since there is a McCormick & Schmick restautant just a block from my work (same owner?). The McCormick & Schmick restaurants do not disappoint.
