Seeking a pretty fishing lake in Colorado or eastern Wyoming

My husband and I don't like seafood so - not surprisingly - we don't do a lot of fishing. Well, our youngest who has been on a cruise, to Niagara Falls, the Black Hills, San Francisco, Disney World etc. has made it very clear that her developement is being stunted and her whole future is in jeopardy because we have not taken her fishing at a lake with trees around it. Sigh. If a fishing trip now can stave off a future of failure and years of expensive therapy, we'd better do it. My sister wants a lake that allows motor boats. So, can anyone suggest a pretty lake big enough for a boat in Colorado or even eastern Wyoming? I appreciate your help.

Grand Lake, Colorado. Beautiful, natural mountain lake about 2 hours from Denver. Connects to Shadow Mountain Lake and Lake Granby. Easy to rent a boat for a few hours, or a day. Look into Grand Lake Lodge for a historic and beautiful old place.

How about Lake Granby or Dillon Reservoir in Colorado? I don't know how the fishing is on either lake, but the scenery is beautiful and you can take your boat on both of them.

When are you going? Dillon is still frozen. Don't expect to get out on it until June. How about fly fishing? The Blue River is considered world class for fly fishing.

Grand Lake immediately popped into my head. It has Rainbow Trout, Lake Trout and Kokonee Salmon. A small but navigable channel connects it to Shadow Mountain Reservoir whose pine-covered eastern shoreline is actually the western boundary of Rocky Mountain National Park. Fish the area around the channel between the two, or the eastern shoreline of Shadow Mountain down by its dam. If you rent on Lake Granby, motor up it's Columbine Bay arm for some good tree-lined shoreline.

You got a smart kid there. Consider hiring a guide so you actually catch some fish.

I LOVE fly fishing and the Blue is indeed a wonderful place. But I don't think you start off for a day to fly fish. The lakes would be great and this year should be full.
