Sights to see in Savannah!
Anything my husband and I should keep in mind to check out while in Savannah? We are heading down at the end of October. Other than a tour - we are looking for some places to go and things to do - such as shops, museums, parks, restaurants, etc....
Thanks so much!

sav, I'e written tons of information on the must see's, best way to see, restaurants etc in Savannah. We lived in the hitoric district for 4 years and just loved it. Rather than retype everything, I hope you don't mind if I suggest you do a "text search" (see the box at the top of the page) typing in Savannah. You'll find more information that you'll know what to do with.
I have never addressed museums specifically and there are a couple. Of course all the house tours could be considered a form of a museum tour...the houses are decorated in the style in vogue when the homes were built. In addition, there is the Ships of the Sea Museum, and the Telfair, the Mighty Eighth Air Force Heritage, and Savannah History Musuem.
Other than Forsyth, I haven't addressed parks per se either, but the entire historic district is composed of a number of parks (squares, really). About 23 remain of the original city layout, all nicely landscaped, and many, especially those on Bull St., with elaborate statues as well. See as many as you can as they change character from one area of the historic district to the other, as do the home styles, depending on who settled the particular area--you'll know when you come to the New England section (northeast section, appropriately enough, of the district).
Most of the shopping is either in City Market or on River St, with a few small antique shops etc tucked in all around the historic district. The best of the book stores is E Shaver's in Madison Square (near the back entrance to the Hilton). She's got a terrific selection of books on the area (cookbooks too, including Mrs. Wilkes) and it's always an interesting shop in which to pick up the latest local gossip. Just hang around near the cash register for a little while and you'll hear it all!
The text search should provide more than enough info to get you going, and if you have other questions, I hope you'll post again.
