St. Augustine Florida
Can anyone out there supply info on St. Augustine? What is the weather like at Christmas time? We are thinking of spending a week there between Christmas and New Years and was wondering what type of activiites are going on. WE are a 40+ age couple looking for a place that is relatively warm (or at least not as cold as Michigan!), that has some nightlife, shopping and other activities. St. George Inn looks like a nice place. Has anyone stayed there.

This is a great site for keeping up with the weather .
Activities in St Augustine are mostly limited to walking around, browsing the shops and eating in the restaurants. It can be done nicely in a long weekend.
Most people that we know don't actually stay that long IN St Aug but in Ponte Vedre or the towns nearby that have a bit more going on and nicer hotels.
The only hotel I can recommend would be the Casa Monica. www.casamonica.com
In Ponte Vedra, I think the Sawgrass Marriott is great and a perfect spot for both St Aug and the rest of the beach communities.

They will have Nights of Lights at that time. This is where all of St Augustine is lit up and they have different things going on. It's very nice. As far as shopping goes, you can't beat the Spanish Quarter. It's an area of little shops that are reminiscent of the 17th century, complete with cobblestone walkways.
Make sure to take the trolley rides for an excellent overview of the city.
The trolleys also have on-and-off privilages. I would highly recommend the trolleys next to the Visitor's Center. I've done one or two others, and this was the best. The Visitors Center is a great place to start, I would also make sure to visit the beautiful fort accross the street.
I think you'll find St Augustine very charming and well worth the visit.
The weather should be nice at that time.

Agree with egret about the Night of Lights!
The Casa Monica is a 4 diamond AAA rated hotel (if I am not mistaken) in a great location. A very good, but less costly alternative is the Old City House <http://www.oldcityhouse.com> about 1-2 blocks away. Breakfast is included in your room rate and they serve excellent dinners too. The Old City House is only a few yards away from the Old St. Augustine Village and from the Cafe Alcazar restaurant where you must have lunch.

We were in St. Augustine two Christmases ago -- the weather was cool and it rained one day. Bring gloves and a hat just in case.
We enjoyed touring the main building of Flagler College, which was once the Ponce de Leon Hotel. http://www.flagler.edu/news_events/tours.html
