Great pictures Bill. I am now convinced that the next trip must include staying on the North Shore for at least a potion of our stay. Our one day up there was simply not adequate.
Gyppielou--maybe I will "come of age" someday, but on our trip in July I brought 12 pairs of shoes/sandals. A bit excessive I know but I just can't handle being so far away from some of my favorites...

jorr,
I was not sure how to designate my partner on the report. He would have killed me if I had called him DP (Dear Partner), so I settled on PM (Partner Martin). Glad you enjoyed reading.
Hvn,
Yes, yes, yes! It is an armpit!

Hi again Bill,
Thank you for sharing your beautiful pictures with us. Your happy, beautiful faces. There is just something about these islands, isn't there? They are enchanting and it is apparent on every face that is blessed enough to experience them.
May you and your PM return again very soon! May we all return again very soon.
Aloha, Tiff

You are so right Tiff...happy, beautiful faces! Isn't that a great sight? The people who live on Kauai and those who visit just have the most wonderful contagious Aloha Spirit.
I saw a magnet or bumper sticker or something and wish I had bought it...it said it all..."I have the Aloha spirit and I caught it on Kauai"

Thanks for the Fabulous pics. When the slideshow ended I nearly cried! The parade was great. I am now going to try and convince my hub to extend our trip for a few more days to stay on that end of the island! I think someone needs to start a Fodors Hell-Hole retirement home that we can all end up in!

First off, Bill, thanks for a grreat (too great??) report. Everyone who has read any of my posts already thinks i'm, well, wacky, so let me chime in and agree about the serious mana around Limahuli area. I have felt this spiritual shockwave at a few hawaiian locations and it really is something. What..errmm, i dunno.
Kal.. YOU crack me up, mister.

Bill,
It was really nice to read your report. You have fabulous pictures. Everyone at the GTG looked so happy.
I miss Hanalei Bay after viewing your pics. Mahalo for a great report and nice slide show.
PS: The plumeria are being grown in Houston.

Call me a masochist, because after reading your trip report and seeing your beautiful pictures, I want to go to Kauai!
Of course, if we ever do, we would also have to go to Maui to visit my brother-in-law. Maybe that's the masochistic part... Oh, well, we get along fairly well.

Hey Bill! I just got home yesterday (4 AM) from the Hell Hole and trying to recover from lack of sleep and being upset at not finding all the treasure hunt items (Where do you find a monk seal???)! I will share more later. We just adopted a three month old puppy and school starts for teachers a week from tomorrow. YIKES! Talk about reality hitting ya in the face, huh???

Great Report, Bill! Glad you enjoyed your trip. We also loved the North Shore. I know what you mean about LAZY! (Remember that silly activities thread I started a while back? Hah! What a joke!)
We just got back last night too. Will try to post a report later. Right now trying to unpack, open the mail, face reality....yadayada....
Anyone know of a 12-step program for overcoming ahi poke addictions?

Ahhh... This is right up my alley!
Step #2: Admitted we were powerless over poke and that our lives had become unmanageable.
Welcome back lvk and Ashley! WHAT A BUMMER! I can tell you that posting here as helped the reduce the effects of PTSD.

iamq nice to read your post and that photo you took of weke road reminded me of my own trip this past July.
Hate that Hawaii is so far away. I am in NYC. There is a song by Keali Reichel I forget the title but one of the chorus lines is "In my life I have been so many places, seen so many faces but every road leads back to you". Think he is talking about a true love here but I am always thinking about Hawaii when I hear it. Wacky but true for me. I want to visited other place I have enjoyed other places but whatever road I do take I am always lead back to Hawaii.

i2,
Hi there. I'm still here, but I am very depressed. School starts tomorrow and I can't believe it. Teaching is the best, but the first few days back are a killer.
I miss the banter too, but I figured you were busy planning the Atlanta GTG and had forgotten all about me.
Ya know, I've been thinkin. Kaua`i was not that great afterall. I'm not that widely traveled, so of course I'm gonna think Kaua`i is pretty great, but is it REALLY? There are so many places that I have not been. Why limit myself to that small, soggy, semi-tropical backwater? With that in mind, PM and I are going to Puerto Vallarta in February and St. John in June. We're staying at Majahuitas in PV and Caneel Bay and a small villa in St. John. I certainly hope they are better than Kaua`i! Sheesh. Wanna come?
