Travel insurance. Have you used it and been reimbursed when you needed to cancel your trip?

We purchased the optional travel insurance for a flight that we will take on Dec 23. A close family memeber of mine has taken seriously ill. Supposedly we are covered for this but will it entail a lot of paper work and will it be a hassle for the doctor? Thank you, Travelbeach

I suppose it might depend on the company you have taken your policy with. I had no problem with a claim last February using TravelGuard.

The policy we bought with TravelGuard clearly defines "immediate family" as sibling, parent, child or parent-in-law. Hope your close family member will be well - and that they fit into one of these categories or that specified by your policy.

Go to the paperwork or website from which you purchased policy and read page zillion (it is always well into the policy) about claim procedures. If by some chance you go ahead with your trip and may need the policy in event of early return - make sure you bring policy with you and contact numbers.
