Travelers: admit it the terrorists have won, here is why:

Yes travelers the terrorists have won the war, here is why:

1) We wait for hours in lines at security checkpoints at airports.

2) The stock market has crashed with no bottom in sight.

3) Airlines and hotel chains are near bankruptcy because people are afraid to travel.

4) Most people are afraid to go to July 4th activities this year.

5) The media can not stop talking about September 11th.

6) There are travel warnings -do not travel overseas and go to places with crowds.

Yes, they won, I give up!

Yes the fact that America has already lost the war against terror, is one of those open secrets in government.

We'll recover. It won't happen overnight. There is no instant fix like certain people out of government would like you to believe.

We will survive. They will not. Just won't be today, tomorrow, or next week.
Life is not a one hour TV show where the bad guy is brought to justice 44 minutes.

You don't think the stock market "crash" has anything to do with scandal and lack of confidence in big companies' management.

Afraid to travel? HELL, NO!!!! I'm going tomorrow! You gotta find better terrorists to stop me!

How come there are still warnings not to go to crowded places? Because there ARE crowds! And will be! And who makes a crowd? People like me. And I'm glad you woun't be there.

Don't agree on a lot of your points. Some of them are mere inconveniences. The others were happening anyways.
1) Just because we wait in lines at the airports doesn't mean they've won. And it's not really "hours," - more like two hours.
2) The market was headed south (no offense to southerners) before 9/11. The rip-offs at WorldCom and Enron were well underway. We are our own worst enemy in that regards.
3) That may be partly true, but the airlines were already in trouble anyways. I don't know the stats on tourism and hotels.
4) I don't know anyone afraid to go to July 4 activities this year.
5) The media does play into the hands of terrorists who like the free publicity. This doesn't mean the terrorists have won. Just that our media needs to be responsible.
6) Lots of people are still going over seas and into crowds. Not sure what warnings you are referring to specifically, but many of us are not altering our lifestyles.

If the terrorists were really to win the war, it would affect far more than the points raised here. It would be unimaginable. Which is why we won't let them win.

And by the way, too bad we aren't altering our lifestyles more and focusing on energy independence and encouraging public service. Then we'd be making something really positive out of a bad situation.

Stock Market was heading for a fall before September 11. I think any analyst not trying to rip you off would tell you that.

I don't have a problem waiting in those lines don't know why we were not doing this before 911.

I am not afraid to go out on the 4th and I live in NYC.

About winning I don't think it is about that we should be trying to understand why so many people hate the U.S

I think the hijackers were wackos but we have to try to understand why part of the world cheered their strike, not just Palestinians but Pakistani, Saudi, Moroccan and Muslims around the world. That is what we should be trying to explore why did all those people cheer. I remember hearing one Student at a prestigious University somewhere in Egypt or Saudi Arabia saying. "You don't understand we are not cheering the death of innocent civilians we just feel that the U.S. does this sort of thing to us all the time”. These were just about his exact words.
And we just got an example of what he was talking about with the Afghan wedding yesterday. First a mistake, today I read they were raiding the region and it sounded similar to how Israel raides a region, A group suffers with home loss or death for a suspected few hiding. THIS SHOULD NOT BE ACCEPTABLE FOR ANY AMERICAN!

cont.Knowing people that were lost and having friends that lost even greater numbers, I can tell you that media coverage is needed for healing.

Just the other night Date Line did a story on people overcoming the trama. We need that. We need people not to just ignore this took place. Families were altered for ever, YOUNG YOUNG SOULS WERE LOST.

If pearl harbor can come up every day as the main sight people want to see in Hawaii, we can have a bit more patience with 911

We have always had to wait at airports for as long as I can remember. Does it bother me? No.

Am I whining like a little baby about the terrorists? No.

Am I having my normal 4th of July celebration, same way I have celebrated it the last 20 years? Yes.

Was the Nasdaq down 60% in Clinton's last year in office? Yes. The market has been down for 3 years. It was up big time in the nineties. Markets do this kind of thing. Do they always go up - no, do they always go down - no. Am I whining about my investments? No.

Have companies gone bankrupt before 9/11 - yes.

Am I afraid to travel? No. I'm going to Europe in August for 3 weeks.

Does the media talk incessantly about bad things - yes. Are they in the business of "news for profit"? Yes. Do I react hysterically to every headline they flame us with? No.

Do you need to chill? Yes.

Are you a wimp? Yes.

Terrorists will never win unless we roll over and play dead.

1.)Airport Security should have been beefed up after Pan Am 103 and the INS should have been tracking visas more closely. The terrorists found weaknesses in our system and used them to their advantage.

2.)As to the travel business, I just got back from WDW and it was crowded, flights were full and security wasn't bad at the airport.

3.) Everyone I work with is going to the 4th activities. Our fireworks display in our city is expected to draw 1/2 million people.

4.)The media are idiots. They are like a dog chewing a bone and overkill everyting.

5.) Check the Mid East forum, there are still people travleing to Egypt and other countries even Israel who are not afraid.

Finally, go get some prozac pal you need it.

WOW,Jack,it didn't take much to beat you did it?
I would hope that the US is made up of people with a little more backbone than that!
The stock market has had bad times before.
We should have always had better security at airports.I would rather wait in line at the airport than at the morgue.
People like you are what is causing airlines and hotels to have money problems.
The media can never stop talking about something! It used to be shark attacks in Florida and flesh eating disease!
There have always been travel warnings.
Make a list of people doing something for July 4th and one of people NOT doing anything-the list of people DOing something will be longer.
Now you can go back to your bomb shelter.

Jack, I can appreciate your concerns. However, you need to realize that we're witnessing the end of islam as a religion and global force, not the beginning. It was more vibrant and alive in the 14th and 15th centuries than it is now. We're seeing the last gasps now.

I have not stopped traveling. I have taken 11 business trips since 9/11. Obviously you have not been to too many airports. For me it's just about the same as before. I just returned from TRIP and I go out again in 1 week.
No big deal. I still arrive at the last minute and still run to the gate.
I am more aware of my surroundings now... I am more concerned with hotel safety as I tend to stay in high profile hotels with underground parking.
I don't travel on holidays, never have.
Working in the travel industry I assure you that the planes are OVERSOLD for the upcoming holiday weekend.
Anyone who travels extensively can tell you that there have always been travel warnings... always. The media is now interested so now you hear about it.
You may choose to life life as an emotional cripple but others will not.
The terrorists HAVE won... but only against weak people like you.
