Tucson condo advice

I am considering a short term condo rental in either :

1. Greens At Ventana Canyon (condo adjacent to golf course, near Loews resort and Sabina Canyon)

2. Vistoso Resort Casitas(Oro Valley;adjacent to Golf Club at Vistoso).

Would appreciate advice from anyone familiar with the location and quality of these developments. We are particularly interested in the setting(views, etc.) and proximity to hiking, etc.

Thanks!

Both are very good developments with fine golf courses. I prefer the golf course at Vistoso. However, Ventana is a larger resort, and might have more going on restaurant and facility wise. Ventana is in the valley and does not have vistas, although the grounds are very nicely done. Ventana will have locations with overlooks.

I think Vistoso is a bit further from Sabino for hiking. Hopefully a local will pick up for more extensive advise on other hiking destinations.

You won't go wrong with either place. Both are lovely.

I'm not sure what stumpworks means by saying that Ventana sits in a valley. It does not. The Ventana Resort is at the base of the Santa Catalina mountain range. The vistas are some of the best in the area. If a valley exists in the area it would be the city of Tucson, and I'd be hard put to actually call it a valley.

I'd go with the Ventana Resort. You won't go wrong with quality or location. As historytravler correctly describes, it's at the base of the Santa Catalina Mtns-
though Tucsonians call them simply the Catalinas.
You should be able to find hiking trail-heads from Ventana
and Sabino has fabulous hiking as well.

You will also be close to the road that will take you up to Mt Lemmon-for more hiking.

You also have good access to Reddington Pass. If you follow Tanque Verde Rd, east it will turn into Reddington at Wentworth and then turns to dirt road two miles or so after that. If it's been raining-you will want to be in a vehicle with good clearance.
The first trail you will hit is Tanque Verde Falls-
wonderful if it's been raining.

You will also be fairly close to Saguaro National Park-East
near the Rincon Mtns.

For trail info on all of these areas do a search
at http://www.fs.fed.us/r3/coronado/
There's a link there for Saguaro National Park.
(There's also a Saguaro National Park on the West side of town)

Maps for all of these hikes are availiable at the Visitors Center at Sabino Canyon.

Do try to get out to the west side of town to visit the Arizona Sonora Desert Museum-it's a must see !

I was dyslexic about Ventana in the valley. I meant Vistoso.

Thought that might be the case.

Razzledazzle- Are you suggesting staying st the Ventana Resort itself, or the condo development I mentioned that I undertand is nearby(Greens At Ventana Canyon)?

Thanks for the information in your prior email-very helpful

The condo within the resort will be fine.
Anywhere at Ventana would be fine, IMHO.
