Just in case you mean Vancouver BC even though this is in the US forumm: De Dutch Pennekoek House. Yes, it's a small chain, but we just love love love to eat there. Take a look at their food: http://www.dedutch.com/

I'm sure the writer meant BC--I can't imagine that there are "many
recommendations" specifically for Vancouver WA--but I also can't let stand the idea that Elmer's( a chain type spot) is the best place to be found for breakfast in Vancouver Wahington. I would recommend Carol's Cafe on 78th or the Cameo Cafe. Personal, local, great fresh breakfasts. And Dulin's downtown is supposed to be good and lots of people like Biscuits on 117th.

I didn't say it was the only place OR the best place, but Elmers has been around for years and it's very popular with people who live in Cascade Park--most of our friends in the area go there. It was right down the street from our church, so we often stopped in after services.
And Elmers does have a place in Portland, OR, regional history...after all, it was at an Elmers that Tonya Harding and co cooked up the plot to bash Nancy Kerrigan.

I don't know what your breakfast is like. Heavy or light.
We went to Deep Cove on the North Shore and had some wonderful muffins and doughnuts that you can't find anywhere. I still dream about that maple doughtnut that didn't look as a chain doughnut.
I grew up in Deep Cove, BC so it is a must for me.

southernchef, enjoy. If you can, try to get to the one in North Vancouver (on West 3rd) - it's a small little place with a lot of charm (may be the original, don't know).
There are so many different "pannekoeks" on the menu; a personal favorite is the mixed berry one. Be warned -- this is real whipped cream and mixes so well with the slight tartness of the berries. I just wish we could sample more; we have to wait until we make to Vancouver every year or so from Florida.

southernchef, this would be the DeDutch on 3rd in North Van. There is one in Vancouver itself, but we just enjoy the other. Same food,though. You may well find that it fits in with an excursion to Grouse Mountain or some other activity outside town,and really only takes about 20 minutes (outside rush hour) to get to. But whichever you choose, it will be wonderful.
The only decisions are: Do I roll, fold, or leave open (speaking of your swedish pancakes, naturally!)?

Doughnuts in Deep Cove, BC.
The main reason I go to Deep Cove, North Shore of Vancouver is b/c it is where I grew up besides it is beautiful. Of course it rained the entire morning and that small cafe with the best doughnuts I have had period was perfect. Still I don't know the name, nor did my brother or sister-in-law, phoned last night.
If you stand on the pier looking up the street it is about 1/2 up the block on the left. One of those small indoor and sidewalk areas to sit places.
