Watts area- is it safe?

I will be travelling to southern cal. in 2 weeks. One of the sights I would like to see are the Simon Rodia towers in Watts. Is this a safe enough place for a tourist. I dont want to really take any chances being that I will be with a car load of people.

Watts is on longer Fred Sanford's Watts of thirty years ago. It is majority Hispanic these days. As for safety, I couldn't tell you.

During the day you should be fine. But I wouldn't hang out there for any longer than I had to, personally.

Go at mid-day and make sure you know the most direct route in and out of the neighborhood so you wont drive around looking lost. You'll be fine.

It is not a safe area to wander around. Just go to tour the Towers and head on out.
