Western New York State Trip
I recently did a road trip to Niagara Falls with stops at Corning, NY and Seneca Falls as well. I cannot say how impressed I was with the Corning Museum of Glass. This is a fabulous museum with many, many interactive exhibits to engage both young and old. I have always loved L C Tiffany and thought only of art glass when I heard of the museum, but it addresses all the uses of glass - in our home window, on our cell phones, in vehicles, in fiber optics and scientific instruments, to name just a few. I only heard about this museum because of their recent Tiffany Mosiac exhibit - which closes January 7, 2018 - but there is so much more to it. And Corning has a Rockwell Museum with a shuttle that runs between the two. Unfortunately, I did not allow enough time to visit the Rockwell.
I also really enjoyed visiting Seneca Falls, home of the first Women's Rights Convention in 1848. The Women's Rights National Historical Park is part of the US Park Service and has excellent exhibits on what led up to the 1848 convention, including some fascinating facts about the role of women in the Native American tribes living in the area. The women who led the convention had visited the tribes and were familiar with the fact that the Native American women had far greater rights than they did.
And, anyone visiting Niagara Falls should not miss the Robert Moses Niagara Power Plant tour. Again, many interactive exhibits about how energy is generated and how it is used. And a very cool ride that simulates a water drop going over Niagara Falls!!
