Westin Times Square for New New Eve
Does anyone know if the Westin Times Square is located in the "barricaded" area during new year eve celebration?
Also, did you have any experience staying at this hotel during new year eve? We wonder how difficult it is to walk only one block (toward One Times Square) at around midnight. (as we do not want to stand 6 hours in the cold weather
Any information would be much appreciated. Thank you.

And hotels or restaurants in the immediate (4 to 5 block area) do not have entrances facing the area open. They are locked and blocked by polie baricades. If you can leave the hotel at all it is a back entrance that leads away from the crowds.
This is doen specifically so people cannot do what you're trying to do - shove in with all those people who have been standing there for 7 or 8 hours.
If you want to see from the street you must go out there and stand. If you're willing to pay big bucks you can get a room with a view. Last year a view room at the Marriott was going for abuot $1500 for the night.

No sorry your plan is not going to work, since the hotel is on the corner of 43rd and 8th Ave. If you want to see the ball drop you are going to have to walk up 8th Ave until you can find a street open, probably in the upper 50's and walk to 7th Ave.
Hope this helps.

You would be able to walk only west and not east.
If you're going to watch the ball drop from a hotel window, you may as well watch it on TV.
The best bet for not having to stand in the cold, but see the ball drop outdoors, is to book any room at the Marriott Marquis. You can see the ball drop from the large area in front of the entrance. Only people with room keys are allowed there. Still, it will be very crowded (with guests) so you must get there earlier than a few minutes before midnight.

We are located one block west of One Times Square. Because of heightened security in the area at that time unfortunately access to Times Square is shut down at approximately 6PM. You will not be able to walk into the viewing area at Midnight. Closer to midnight there are opportunities to walk north to get a view of the ball drop, the latest you should go out is 9PM.
