Where to go in florida for family reunion December 2009?

We are planning a family reunion--age 5 yrs to 65yrs--from xmas to new years. Florida seems to be a midway location. Everyone wants beach weather and sports. Is that likely in December?
I was looking at Sanibal island/ fortmyers--any suggestions where to stay? we would prefer under $200 per night unless it was a condo with 2 rooms.
Do you recommend a differnt location? we want someplace that is not too far from a major airport.

Anl all all inclusive resort could be nice so we don't have to plan dinner reservations.

The only way to at least have a good chance of beach weather & such in December would be to go to Miami or the Keys. Perhaps you could pick a different time for your family reunion ?

I would say Miami but book now. December is the busiest time of year and the most expensive.

You never know how the weather will be in Dec. Check out monthly averages at weather.com. Lago Mar, near Ft. Lauderdale, is a nice choice for families.

Casa Marina in Key West might have specials at that time

We've stayed in both Naples and Captiva Island. Neither was an all inclusive, but I think you could find condo style rooms with kitchens on beachfront property. (Seven Seas resort was the last place we stayed, great 2 bdrm condo on the beach.)

Never been over xmas, we normally go the first week of November and the weather is usually perfect.

Seaside, Florida... not sure on rates, I'd call and see if you can negotiate. If you guys like each other could share a home in this dreamy seaside town as seen in the movie, THE TRUMAN SHOW..

Gulf coast, cook together, eat out, beach it, perfect... I hope this helps...
