Where to stay near Disney World in August (Int'l Drive area)

Spending 13 days in Orlando in August - looking for nice but affordable accommodations for 2 adults & 2 children (ages 8 & 15).

Has anyone stayed at the Floridian?

Thank you.

Hello,
We have never stayed at the Floridian. however we did stay at Wilson World and it was only one mile from the Disney Gate.
Wilson World has their own Homepage on the web.
We always go to Disney in Jan. and we always like staying at someplace different outside Disney (we also go to other places in Florida or we would just stay at Disney) and just this past year we stayed at Wilson World and it was reasonable and it was also safe.
However, If your just going to DisneyWorld Stay at DisneyWorld you can check out Disneys web page and get some rates and when you start figuring cost of driving around and parking and etc... it's cheaper to just stay at DisneyWorld. check out Dixie Landings.
Have a good time.

I would like some info on Westgate Lakes. Detailed info on 2bedroom, types of service, amendities, distance from WDW and universal, and if they have a complimentary breakfast.

My wife and I just went to Disney last year and took
our 9 year old daughter. We stayed at (and loved) the Port Orleans Hotel. The hotel rooms were fine, the pool was "massive" with a cool dragon water slide that the kids staying there want to keep going
down over and over. Also it covers a large area of
land and the grounds are just beautiful. Through a
package it WAS NOT that expensive either. If you want a place the kids are going to have fun when your not running Disney, check it out, I would go back in a minute

I would not even consider staying near International Drive while visiting DW. It is sooooooo congested with traffic that it is even hard to get out of the driveways of the hotels.
I've been to DW 10 times and have learned that the best value is a Disney property. As a resort guest, you only need your car to get to the hotel and take yourself back to the airport, unless you plan on going someplace else at nite. The parks are open late during the summer so expect crowds and heat. After all, it is August in Florida.
I highly recommend Dixie Landings or Port Orleans. They are not tacky and you would never guess you were a Disney property. Very clean and centrally located to everything. There are 4 bus stops at Dixie so just follow the signs on the buses for your destination.
Have a wonderful vacation. Email me if you have further questions.

Having just returned from Orlando and not familiar
with the area, we learned the hard way that for
future visits we don't want to stay on Orange
Blossom Trail. After an attempted theft of our
rental car, we learned from the car rental place
that this is a routine happening at motels on Orange
Blossom Trail. We booked our accommodations at a
Ramada Inn & Suites and found their standards of
cleanliness and ameneties far below the standards
we expected from the travel information we received.
While I'm sure there are many great accommodations
in the Orlando area, we would not want anyone else
to experience the frustration of staying in an area
known for criminal activity.
After assuming responsibility for damages on our rental car because of the would-be thieves, we were told by the rental agent,"Next time you come to Orlando-stay away from Orange Blossom Trail!" (Wish
they'd told us when we picked up the car!)

Why not try Vistana. It is a huge Timeshare resort with plenty of rental accomodation. It is great for kids as there is plenty to do within the resort and it is just across from Beuna Vista. It is also covered by security guards.

You may want to try the All Star Music or Sports Resorts, they are Disney properties but not as expensive as places like the Floridian. As a side note, make sure you take the kids to the RainForest Cafe either at Disney Animal Kingdom or Downtown Disney (Disney Market place). They will love it. We went to one in Las Vegas and it was great. The whole place is like a rainforest with robotic animals such as elephants, tigers etc. And it actually rains behind your seats, you won't get wet.

Every time we go to O'do, we stay at the Quality Inn Plaza on International Drive. I saw the comment about how congested it is to stay on I Drive, but that's the beauty of the tourist area. The Q Inn is very nice for families and very reasonable. The good part in staying on I Drive is that there are so many choices of non-Disney attractions and reasonably-priced restaurants. Don't get me wrong, Disney does get most of my money, but just for cooling out in the evening, I Drive is the way to go! Hope this helps.

Hi Lisa, I just read about your trip to West Lake Gates Hotel in Florida. Could you give me any info? We have 4 teenagers. Are the rooms big enough? Thanks. Lynn
