Will $4 gas price this summer change your travel plans?

We are wondering, with the price of gas escalating, should we make any travel plans that involve auto travel? Or any travel, for that matter. We had budgeted a European trip for late August, but with the dollar also going south, it is going to cost us more and more to purchase British Pounds. So that is the unknown factor in planning ahead...you won't really know what the bottom dollar factor is.

$4 in Europe ???

The current prices in most western European countries are in the range of €1.25 to €1.50.

That's in Euro's per Liter.

In $$$ that would be somewhere between $6.40 and $7.65 per gallon.

Take in consideration that most European rental cars are less gas consuming ;-)

But driving isn't going to be cheap over here!
(BTW That's over here for me, and over there for you )

Clarasong,

asking whether or not you should make travel plans involving auto travel is like asking whether or not you should write that book you keep telling us about.

Mr. Mizz Dukey: When I publish my book, it will be under a different name, so you will not know whether you are reading it at all, if, in fact, you do read...be sure to put the popsicle down before opening cover, else it gets all sticky.

We aren't planning any long driving this summer, so it isn't an issue for us this time around. Well, we are driving down to San Diego in August, which is sort of a long haul. But the difference in cost isn't all that great. My car gets about 30-32 mph highway, so for a 900 mile round trip, the difference between $3/gal gas and $4/gal gas is $30. Not a big deal to me. Just part of the cost of going on vacation.

In general though, I think that any road trips we make, even if gas is $5-6/gallon will be so much cheaper than flying the Europe or something that - it wont alter our plans.
