Planning a trip in June. Which is a better trip for 4 young seniors,from east coast, Yellowstone or the Grand Canyon? May I ask Why? thanks gandb7

Ok, I am jumping in first. No way can you compare these two fabulous, beautiful destinations. Do them both in separate trips to give them the justice they deserve. They are nothing alike and don't by any means offer the same experiences. Obviously, one is mountains and one is desert. Enjoy.

The best way to decide is to flip a coin. Both sites are wonderful places to visit and you will be happy with either one.

As noted by Charli: if you want desert, go to the Canyon; if you want forests and mountains and water, go to Yellowstone.

The only reason one might prefer Yellowstone is because it is cooler and has animals in the wild. The only reason one might prefer the Grand Canyon is because it is warmer. In June it could go either way: the Canyon MIGHT be too hot and Yellowstone MIGHT be too cold. But either could be perfect.

You can go to the Grand Canyon and have both mountains and desert if you go to the North Rim and throw in a few of the beautiful NPs in Utah.

You won't be disappointed regardless of which you choose. Have fun!

I have been to both parks, but my personal preference is Yellowstone and Grand Teton National Park. Why? The breathtaking views, geysers, hot springs, wildlife. It is truly a special place.

personally, I think Yellowstone is much more interesting, more to see and do.

It depends on the amount of time you have. Yellowstone requires more time than the Grand Canyon because what there is to see is more spread out. Spending a day or two at the south rim of the Grand Canyon, including a partial hike down one of the trails, will give you a good sense of the place.

Two different places as has been said. If time is not any problem spend it in the the Yellowstone area. Much more to see and do in that area. You made no mention of what activities you were looking for or what mode of transportation you would be using so it would be difficult to offer any suggestions.

I agree with Michael that the amount of time you have for this trip will make a big difference on which park you will want to visit.

I think Yellowstone is my all time favorite National Park and I've been to a great many in the west. There is so much to see and do that I like to plan at least 5 to 7 days for this one park. Then add a couple more days for the Grand Tetons next door.

The Grand Canyon can be seen in 2 days or 3 if you plan on hiking down into the canyon at all. Nearby the Grand Canyon are many other beautiful national parks, national monuments, and national recreational areas like Bryce Canyon, Zion, Glen Canyon and Canyon de Chelly to name a few. If you have 2 weeks you can even include Arches, Canyonlands and Capitol Reef National Parks.
