Sorry! We don't have any recommendations for Vancouver right now.
Vancouver is a pretty compact city, but each neighborhood has a distinct character and its own style of accommodations options. From hip boutique hotels to historic bed-and-breakfasts to sharp-angled glass-and-mirror towers, there are lodging choices for every style and budget. You can choose to be in the center of the shopping action on Robson Street, among the gracious tree-lined boulevards near Stanley Park, or in close proximity to the pulsing heart of the city's core.
Vancouver is an extremely outdoorsy community, so hotel amenities can sometimes include free bicycles and free ski storage, and many concierges can put you in contact with hiking and running groups that welcome visitors. Some properties even offer complimentary limo service, usually to the theater, or for picking you up after shopping, which comes in especially handy if you have lots of bags.
The city is extremely pet-friendly, especially when it comes to dogs. Not only can you bring your pooch with you to many Vancouver properties, some even let you borrow their dog for a walk (check out the Fairmont Hotel Vancouver, for instance).
With its goal to become the greenest city in the world by 2020 (as in eco-wise, not with respect to the already abundant natural greenery), recycling and sustainability are essential parts of life in Vancouver. Many hoteliers have also made eco-friendly practices an integral part of the guest experience. For example, Fairmont Waterfront was among the first in the world to adopt a green roof concept—the garden and apiary supply the hotel with herbs and honey—and it has electric vehicle charging stations. The hotel also initiated groundbreaking water conservation and waste management systems. Supporting the community and protecting the surrounding landscapes have become good business practices, and the Westin Bayshore followed the trend by financially assisting in the creation of Cardero Park, on the east side of the property.
Be forewarned though: environmental awareness and community building are top of mind for most Vancouverites. That means hotels with a water view or exemplary environmental report cards are coveted and book up well in advance. Some of the historic bed-and-breakfasts you'll find in the more homey residential neighborhoods like the West End and near Stanley Park are also extremely popular.
Located inside the Vancouver International Airport (YVR), this upscale property is a soundproofed oasis of luxury set against a backdrop of Vancouver's North Shore mountains with floor-to-ceiling views over the runways. The hotel's spa offerings are designed with the weary traveler in mind, including jet-lag recovery treatments and in-room bath menus. The Globe Restaurant, featuring west coast cuisine, is open daily. Day-use rooms are also available.
Located across from BC Place Stadium, home of the CFL (Canadian Football League), concerts, and special events, this laid-back, casually elegant hotel is part of Best Western's Premier Collection. This translates to clean lines of dark hardwood floors, grey, beige, and white decor for a classic, modern feel. Thoughtful amenities include in-room yoga mats and a gym with a Peloton bike, infrared sauna, and hot tub. Pets are C$20 per day. Frankie's Italian Kitchen & Bar is a local favorite, especially on Jazz nights (Thursday through Sunday).
Located in the waterfront Canada Place complex, the sophisticated Pan Pacific has easy access to the city's convention center and the cruise-ship terminal. The atrium lobby is two floors above the convention center foyer so although dramatic, it feels uninviting. Rooms are large and modern with stunning ocean, mountain, or skyline views, and with fabulously comfortable beds and pillows. High-end suites, some with private steam rooms, saunas, or baby-grand pianos, are popular with a star-studded list of royals, celebs, and well-heeled news makers. The 26-room Roman bath–themed Spa Utopia and Salon is sumptuous; the health-and-fitness center is state-of-the-art; and the outdoor saltwater swimming pool offers panoramic views of Coal Harbour and Stanley Park.
With its assorted rooms, suites, apartments, and penthouses, there's something to suit everyone from singles to families. All units are comfortably furnished and have cooking facilities of some sort, whether a stove and microwave, or a full kitchen. There's a 24-hour concierge that is a wealth of helpful information, which will also supply you with a pass to a nearby fitness center.
It's the oldest continuously operating hotel in the city, but edgy, modern decor livens up the 1913 boutique property, and Canadian artwork (including in the stairwells) and heritage furnishings gives it a unique sense of place. Rooms and suites come in various shapes, sizes, and configurations (sofa beds and adjoining doors are good family options) because of the building's original architecture. All rooms have plug-and-play gadget panels, in-room safes that accommodate laptops, and more than 200 TV channels. The lower-level front rooms can be noisy: there's a pub below and middle-of-the-night deliveries can be disturbing. You have a choice of bathroom styles—some only have showers, but make no mistake, they're first-class and all have heated bathroom floors and L'Occitane en Provence bath products. Although there are no views, the rates include à la carte breakfast for two and other niceties like passes to Fitness World around the corner. The Gotham Steak House ( 604/605-8282) is a local fave.
