Four Seasons Hotel Rabat

$$$$ | Av. Brahim Roudani, Rabat, Morocco Fodor's Choice

The Four Season's third Moroccan property (after Marrakesh and Casablanca) is arguably the most stunning: perched on a clifftop overlooking the ocean, an 18th-century sultan’s summer residence has been reimagined as an ultraglamorous “palace by the sea." Dressed in calming neutral tones, there are nods to Moorish architecture and Moroccan craftsmanship everywhere, from the sumptuous carpets to zellij tilework, and a modern take on mashrabiya in gilded screens. The elegant, well-appointed rooms have marble bathrooms, and terraces and balconies with views over the beautifully manicured gardens or the Atlantic. You'll be spoiled for choice with seven different dining venues—including Mediterranean at Verdello and classic French cuisine at Brasserie Marie—and three pools: a resort-style pool, an ocean-view infinity pool, and a saltwater pool at the lavish spa.

Pros

  • Pampering spa and beautiful marble hammam
  • Multiple dining options, and a well-stocked bar
  • Striking decor

Cons

  • Rates can be expensive
  • May not be intimate enough for some
  • It’s a short taxi ride to the old city

L'Iglesia

$$ | Eglise Espagnole, El Jadida, Morocco Fodor's Choice

One of Morocco’s most stylish hotels is partly built within the walls of the old Spanish church, St. Anthony of Padua, in the heart of the centuries-old Cité Portugaise. Set over two sites (the church and convent, and the former American Consulate), the rooms here are quirky yet comfortable, with original features maintained for a truly ethereal feel. The old bell was taken from the tower (which you can still climb) and installed in the entrance hall, while the altar area has been transformed into a sublime salon where you can sit and drink, read, or just gaze in wonder at what may be the country’s most impressive collection of Art Deco objects.

Pros

  • Unique interiors
  • Gorgeous building
  • Historical setting

Cons

  • If you stay in the converted church, breakfast is in a different building
  • Expensive for the area
  • Few other restaurant options in the area

L'Oum Errabia

$$ | 25, Impasse Chtouka, Azemmour, Morocco Fodor's Choice

This delightful guesthouse at the river’s edge effortlessly mixes charm and chic. On arrival, you’ll be forgiven for feeling you’ve walked into a contemporary art gallery because L'Oum Errabia doubles as one—and many of the displayed works by local and international artists are for sale. Paintings aside, there’s a plethora of Art Deco furniture plus some lovely local touches; guest room walls are covered in earthy tadelakt and hand basins are lined with pretty mosaics. When the evening sun slides over the water, there’s nothing sweeter than a drink next to the pool on the wood-decked balcony.

The Repose

$ | 17, Zankat Talaâ, Salé, Morocco Fodor's Choice

This outstanding riad is a veritable sanctuary set over three floors and run by a lovely Anglo-Moroccan couple. Each individually themed suite is decorated with a decidedly local touch, creating an atmosphere that's both opulent and comfortable. The cuisine, too, is remarkable; the chef uses local ingredients to prepare an entirely vegetarian menu (unique in Morocco), which, at dinner, consists of five exquisite courses. A flower-filled roof terrace and on-request massage and beauty treatments (men can try a wet shave on the roof-top) all help to make this a blissful place to enjoy some genuine peace, away from the bustle of city life. If you’re feeling ambitious, Moroccan cooking classes and guided tours can also be arranged.

Pros

  • Exceptional food
  • Beautiful, restful environment
  • Excellent service including a helpful, hand-drawn map

Cons

Royal Mansour Casablanca

$$$$ | 27, Av. de FAR, Casablanca, Morocco Fodor's Choice

The opening of the Royal Mansour's second outpost—owned by Morocco’s Royal Family, the first is in Marrakesh, and the third will be in Tamuda Bay—has brought a whole new level of luxury to the White City’s hotel scene. No expense has been spared in their reinvention of this iconic 1950s hotel, including showstopping lighting, 70 kinds of marble, and acres of glass to showcase the city views, and apartment-sized suites with walk-in closets and gorgeous marble-and-gold bathrooms. Sharing the leafy ground-floor courtyard are Japanese chefs at The Sushi Bar and a menu from a three-Michelin-starred French chef at La Brasserie. Head up to the 23rd floor for five-star dining with views to match at La Grande Table Marocaine, or bag a front-row seat at Le Rooftop, for Mediterranean fare and the best show in the city; the sun setting behind the Hassan II Mosque.

Pros

  • Striking decor
  • The service is second-to-none
  • Fine dining and a well-stocked bar

Cons

  • The only outside space is a small courtyard
  • Rates can be expensive
