Dendermonde
Dendermonde
When Belgians think of Dendermonde, their thoughts drift to the legend of the Bayard Steed, a saga that dates back to the Middle Ages. It has long since seeped into local culture, helped by a colorful, UNESCO-listed pageant of giant floats that has marauded through the streets here every decade for five centuries. It is known as the Ros Beiaardommegang and draws thousands to a city largely unused to visitors despite its beautiful beguinage and captivating abbey.
