3 Best Hotels in Faroe Islands, Denmark

Hotel Føroyar

$$$ | Oyggjarvegur 45, Tórshavn, 100, Faroe Islands

High in the hills above Tórshavn, and high in guests' estimation, this is considered to be one of the best accommodations in town, combining boutique design sensibilities with the natural life of the island. From the outside, the sloping grass roofs of the long, slender spa hotel disappear, hobbit-style, into the landscape. Inside, the rooms remain relatively simple, with bare white walls and chocolate-brown bedding, but feature panoramic windows with views down to Tórshavn and the sea.

Pros

  • Fabulous views
  • Interesting architecture
  • Nature setting

Cons

  • A 20-to-30-minute walk to town, uphill on the way back

Hotel Hafnia

$$$ | Áarvegur 4–10, Tórshavn, 100, Faroe Islands

Within walking distance of city sights, services, and transportation links, Hotel Hafnia has been hosting guests since 1950, when Christian Restorff demolished his estate to build the best accommodations in town. Decades of expansion and renovations now give Hafnia its tasteful, modestly elegant ambiance. Rooms blend soft beige and yellow tones with simple wood furniture and sparse wall art. The vibe is decidedly more energetic in the hotel restaurant, especially during its summer seafood buffets, fished locally from some of the cleanest ocean in the world.

Pros

  • Panoramic views
  • Convenient location
  • Excellent hotel restaurants

Cons

  • Rooms a bit small
  • Very small bathrooms
  • Thin pillows

Hotel Tórshavn

$$$ | Tórsgøta 2, Tórshavn, 100, Faroe Islands

For location, it's hard to beat this three-star boutique hotel just steps from the harbor. Opened in 1923, it mainly provided accommodations for seamen until receiving a complete makeover in 2007, when rooms were updated technologically and redecorated in warm red, peach, and orange tones, enhanced by playfully seductive canvases by Faroese artist Rannva Holm Mortensen. Views in all directions charm guests, but the harbor view up front remains the obvious favorite. On the ground floor, the brasserie Hvonn maintains steady business all day for quick pizzas and pastas between work and for cocktails and live music afterward.

Pros

  • Couldn't be more central
  • Great views
  • Helpful staff

Cons

  • Nighttime noise from surrounding streets
  • Some rooms showing wear and tear
  • Small rooms
