In this budget-minded annex to the Argyll Hotel, across the road on Sauchiehall Street, the rooms are plainly furnished but scrupulously clean. This is a no-frills option, as the price suggests. For that same reason, it's wise to book ahead if you can. The full Scottish breakfast, served in the restaurant in the larger parent establishment, is quite hearty. The staff is friendly and helpful, but parking is difficult on the main road, where charges apply from 9 am.

Overlooking the Clyde, this hotel is within sight of the SSE Hydro entertainment arena and a short walk along the water from the Riverside Museum, and a slightly longer walk from Argyle Street in Finnieston. Guest rooms are bright and contemporary, dressed in muted colors, and each has an Apple Mac that doubles as computer and TV. Those overlooking the river have lovely views but cost a little more.

Although they vary in size, the individually styled rooms are basic but comfortable and economical.
